Everyone knows that feeling when you enter a room and immediately sense whether the atmosphere is pleasant, even without anyone saying anything. This isn't magic—many traditions call it the subtle energy field.
Every living thing has an energy field. Plants, animals, and you too! Even places are surrounded by energy fields. It touches every layer of who we are: physical, mental, and emotional. It connects us with ourselves, with others, and with nature.
It might sound vague, but we all feel it. The energies around us have simply become so normal—because they're always present—that they sink into our subconscious.
Unless you pay attention...
What is the energy field?
There are various names for "energy field." In yoga, we often speak of "prana" (life energy), while in Chinese medicine, we use "qi" or "chi." In the West, the term "aura" is most common, so I'll use it interchangeably with "energy field" throughout this text!
Despite the differences, the idea always remains the same: our being consists of more than just the physical body. Within the body (via the chakras) and around the body (via the aura) there is an energy field that is constantly interacting with our inner world and the world around us.
The subtle energy field is something you can primarily experience. Although some scientists demonstrate that living beings emit measurable electromagnetic fields, it remains difficult to pinpoint precisely where "soul" or "energy" begins and the physical ends.

What is the aura and how does the energy field work?
The aura is an energetic layer around your body that protects you, but also shows you how you are really doing.
When you're relaxed, your aura is often open and light . When you're stressed or exhausted, your aura may feel weaker or denser .
Many people experience this intuitively, for example through goosebumps when listening to music, a tingling sensation after meditation or a heavy feeling after a busy day.
According to yoga teachings, the energy field consists of several layers that influence each other:
- a physical layer, which is connected to your body,
- a mental layer, which is connected to your thoughts and beliefs,
- an emotional layer, which reflects your feelings,
- and a spiritual layer, which connects you to something bigger.
These layers overlap and are closely intertwined with the seven chakras. If one layer or chakra becomes unbalanced, you often notice it on other levels, for example, as tension in your body or inner turmoil.
Why is the subtle energy field important?
Our energy field is like a personal buffer: it protects us and helps us process information that doesn't come through words or rational thought. This explains why the atmosphere of a room, music, or even someone's mood can deeply affect us.

Older cultures had rituals and customs for this, such as burning incense or energetically cleansing with sage .
These days, we sometimes forget this invisible layer, especially due to busyness and excessive screen time. But taking good care of your energy field doesn't have to be complicated. With small adjustments to our daily routine, you can notice a greater sense of calm and resilience.
What can you do to strengthen your energy field?
Our energy field recharges—and depletes—just like our body's battery. Below, we share ways to nourish and protect your energy field.
Yoga and movement
By moving, you stimulate the energy flow in your body. Even a simple sun salutation on your yoga mat helps. We're happy to help you find the perfect yoga mat .
Conscious breathing
Breathing is the bridge between body and energy. By breathing calmly and deeply, you help open pathways through which prana (life energy) flows freely. There are various techniques and exercises you can use, each with its own unique power.
Meditation and silence
Closing your eyes for a moment, feet on the ground, works wonders. Your energy field calms, and you experience greater clarity. There are also many different types of meditation. With some, you can find depth with a meditation cushion , while with others, a bed or yoga mat is sufficient.

Nature
Enjoying the outdoors, touching trees, taking a walk—it recharges you and balances your energy field. Imagine that we used to be constantly in touch with nature. Looking at yourself now, do you consciously go outside every day? It's a powerful and easy solution to improved physical, spiritual, and mental health.
Water
Showering, swimming, or even just washing your hands: water is not only refreshing for your body but also helps cleanse your energy field. It literally washes away tension and stress and gives your aura a chance to regenerate.

Setting boundaries
I don't know who needs to hear this, but sometimes it's necessary to distance yourself from places or people who trigger unrest or negativity. Self-care isn't selfish; it helps keep your energy field healthy.
Small rituals for daily balance
Rituals help cleanse and strengthen your energy field. Think of lighting a candle, briefly tapping yourself off before or after a busy day (literally gently tapping your arms, shoulders, and legs), or mindful breathing exercises.
- Lie down on your yoga mat and consciously feel how your body makes contact with the floor.
- Air out your room and let in some fresh air.
- Take time each week to do something that feels right for you, such as listening to music or reading a good book.
If you notice your energy field feeling a bit "clogged" or heavy, a small ritual can make all the difference. If you can't seem to figure it out on your own, there are also many practices where you can find support and help. The most important thing is to keep feeling what works for you, not to make it an obligation, and to seek professional, high-quality help if needed.
Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, everyone actually experiences it in their own way. Some people sense strong mood swings in a particular room, while others quickly notice whether someone is being genuine. You don't need a "gift": it's primarily a combination of feeling and attention.
Are there any risks or objections to working with the energy field?
Paying attention to your energy field daily is safe. However, if you experience persistent physical or psychological complaints, it's wise to consult a doctor or specialist. Remain critical and use your common sense.
